In February 1996, the Chinese and the Muslims both celebrated the most important festivals of their calendar year back to back. Yes, in that year, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Puasa were celebrated in the month of February. We in Singapore, including our neighbours, Malaysia, were so lucky as we had a super long weekend.
We had the Chinese New Year public holiday on the Monday and Tuesday, followed by the Hari Raya Holiday on the Wednesday. It was a double celebration for everyone! I remember that year distinctively, as on the 3rd day of the lunar new year, our family had another reason to celebrate. It marked the arrival of our eldest daughter.
This bundle of joy arrived after 6 years of marriage, and we had really looked forward to her arrival. Without doubt, she was pampered by both hubby and me.
Now, every year, she never fails to remind us of her chinese birthday, and she will request for "mee sua and eggs" for her breakfast. Lucky her, her chinese birthday is one the family never forgets!
